Art Education Application Portfolio

Artist Statement:

Throughout my life I have always been drawn to various mediums of art. I have experimented with painting (2D and 3D), printmaking, drawing, ceramics, and various crafts. I have always enjoyed learning new mediums and further developing old ones. My artwork is predominantly oil painting on canvas, but my love for art has led me to experiment and educate myself on other mediums as well. While I may not be the best at all mediums, I am devoted to art and practicing with the mediums to become the best I can be. As far as subject matter goes, my art varies with personal expression, feelings and interests.  I feel these specific pieces I have picked show a wide range of skills and improvement over the course of my life.  For me, art is about two things: self expression and growth. No matter what piece of my art I look at, I find myself reflecting on my emotions, experiences and feelings which I had at the time. I also am able to see the many different ways which I have improved and grown. Art is not something that should be instantly perfect in my opinion, but rather worked upon, enhanced and connected with over the course of the time which it takes to make the art. I have always admired the beauty of art, and not just in an aesthetic way. One of the beauties of art is that you can always learn and grow from it, and I believe my art does just that.

Savva and Trimis Readings

In Trimis and Savva's readings the idea and study of chrotopos was explored. Using children and an art project, the children were able to be introduced in many ways to the environment and were able to learn directly from it.  Children were able to interact with the environment hands on, which allowed for knowledge to be gained. For this study, preliminary, enrichment, production and reflection are key ideas that were focused on. The children were able to create their own art and then reflect on their works. By having the students reflect on their work, they were able to have reinforced the knowledge they gained and share what they overall learned from the various assignments.
